So, let me make one thing clear: we love our Belgian Malinois with all our hearts, and spoil him whenever we can. He became a big part in our life, and we treat him almost like a family member. Nevertheless, there were certain behaviors that could not be fixed with our normal approach of positive re-reinforcement. There were a few things we were able to fix with this device. The most important one for us was the humping. Our dog is not neutered (he is 9 months old). When around many dogs (i.e. in the dog park) he was always the one who tried to hump the other dogs. Especially in a big park and off the leash, this is something very difficult to control. You actually have to stand right next to him all the time. The remote trainer was the perfect solution! Whenever he attempted to hump, we used the device. The device first beeps, and then gives a light shock. After two days, beeping alone was enough to stop him from doing something that was in our opinion unwanted. We never had to use the actual shock from then on after! And now regarding the strength of the shock. I used it first on me and on my wife. It has 8 levels. The first two levels are in my opinion unnoticeable. We used at first level four, and later only level three. Level three feels on a human like a light tickle. Level four kind of like a pinch. Level four definitely did the trick, and he immediately showed an adverse reaction. Our puppy is 70 pounds. I assume the higher levels are necessary for bigger dogs. Again… it was almost like a miracle solution for us. Any type of off leash training is a breeze! The only concern I want to address is the potential abuse of the device: it should only be used by owners who know what they are doing, and who use it in very specific situations. It should not be used for long-term, and it definitely can never fall into the hands of kids!
